APHASIA GROUP Aphasia is a neurologically based disorder of language, which can impact an individual’s ability to comprehend or express themselves fluidly. The Aphasia Group offers strategies that improve participants' understanding and production of language. Group topics are based on current themes or events that are most relevant to group members.
COGNITIVE REORGANIZATION Individuals with executive dysfunction have difficulty with higher level cognitive skills which are relied on to problem solve in challenging situations. The following skills can be impacted by executive dysfunction:
Planning and 0rganization
Time management
Decision-making
Judgment and reasoning
Awareness
Processing speed and efficiency
Challenges with executive functioning can be acquired following a neurological event (e.g., brain injury, stroke, tumor), can co-occur with other diagnoses (e.g., Autism, ADHD/ADD), or can be present independent of other conditions. The focus of the Cognitive Reorganization Group is to help strengthen executive functioning abilities that are needed for individuals to successfully participate in their home, work, or community settings. Group topics are based on current themes/events that are most relevant to group members.
THE SOCIAL NETWORK Pragmatics consist of our ability to use language for social purposes. Turn-taking, equal sharing of information, body language, eye contact, gestures, and the verbal content we share are all significant factors that impact how we interact with others. Social communication can be affected by both developmental and neurological diagnoses, but you may also be someone who just needs a boost in social skills training! Whether this means being a clearer communicator during presentations at work or acquiring the skills needed to be more present during interactions with friends and family, The Social Network could be for you!
