What is group therapy?

Group therapy participants will:

  • Engage in structured activities which target specific speech, language, or cognitive needs
  • Work on therapeutic skills with other partners, enhancing the ability to carryover skills to new people and situations

Which group can I join?

APHASIA GROUP

Aphasia is a neurologically based disorder of language, which can impact an individual’s ability to comprehend or express themselves fluidly.  The Aphasia Group offers strategies that improve participants' understanding and production of language. Group topics are based on current themes or events that are most relevant to group members.

COGNITIVE REORGANIZATION
Individuals with executive dysfunction have difficulty with higher level cognitive skills which are relied on to problem solve in challenging situations. The following skills can be impacted by executive dysfunction:

  • Planning and 0rganization
  • Time management
  • Decision-making
  • Judgment and reasoning
  • Awareness
  • Processing speed and efficiency
Challenges with executive functioning can be acquired following a neurological event (e.g., brain injury, stroke, tumor), can co-occur with other diagnoses (e.g., Autism, ADHD/ADD), or can be present independent of other conditions. The focus of the Cognitive Reorganization Group is to help strengthen executive functioning abilities that are needed for individuals to successfully participate in their home, work, or community settings. Group topics are based on current themes/events that are most relevant to group participants.
